The SBA have been invited to attend an historical boat show, The St John’s Navalis, in Prague. The invitation is from the “Ferrymen of Prague” and the event has taken place every year since the beginning of the 18th C. The date is 14-16th May 2011 and they are offering full board accommodation for 4 days to entrants. As the details of this would not be published in Funnel until March and this leaves little time for an entrant to arrange travel, please contact Roger Heise, our European representitive for further details.

The SBA will be at the Liverpool Boat Show - 29th April – 8th May 2011
A small group of Committee Members, John Puddy, Roger Heise and Pete Cuthbert, are working on the proposal for the SBA to have a presence at the forthcoming Liverpool Boat Show. This looks to be one of the premier events in the North West in 2011 and it is hoped that an SBA presence will be a good source of new members. Other engineering events such as the London ME exhibition and the Harrogate ME exhibition are a useful source of new members, but the SBA has not had any kind of profile at commercial boat shows in recent years.
So what sort of presence do we envisage? Firstly, we plan to have an SBA stand with one boat, our display boards and some heavy items of equipment on display. The intention is that the stand will be staffed by Members who can talk to the show goers about the Association and what we do. They will, of course be supplied with a good stock of Application Forms to distribute.
Secondly, it hoped to assemble a small flotilla of launches of all shapes and sizes. This will cruise the length of the docks every day to the accompaniment of a commentary on the PA system. Outside the formal cruise periods the boat owners may be able to cruise within the limited secured docks area.
The plan, of course, all depends upon you the Members coming forward to offer your boats and your time. Given the length of the Show we would envisage that we will have a rolling group of boats and an even larger rolling list of volunteers to staff the SBA stand. Being a visitor to such an event is hard on the feet. Being a representative on a stand is both hard on the feet and incredibly dull when the visitor flow is low. Thus, we would like to have lots of volunteers doing small slots. That will also allow the volunteers to have some time to look at the show. A big plus is that volunteers will get free entry to the Exhibition.
If you would like to volunteer then please get in contact with John Puddy, Roger Heise or Pete Cuthbert.
