Motor Launch MARIELLA
The boat is called 'Mariella' and was built in 1935 as a yacht tender for a ketch called 'Mariella' which is currently in Antigua. Length 14ft, beam 5ft, powered by a Coventry Victor inboard petrol engine.
It is of clinker construction with a small forward deck and 3 rows of seats, one facing forward an two facing stern. Steering is by side wheel to an externally mounted rudder.
All the internal woodwork is mahogany and most of it has been stripped in preparation for varnish. All of the internal planking has been stripped ready for varnish. Externally the boat has been stripped and revarnished, with paint below the waterline.
The boat is 100% original in every respect complete with all chrome/bronze fittings.
The boat stands on an 'SBS' trailer in my garage. The trailer was purchased new and has been used once only when we moved house from Buckinghamshire to the Midlands, where it now lies.
I believe this boat would make an ideal small steamboat, being small enough to fit into a domestic sized garage.
The boat and trailer is offered for sale at £1200 complete with road trailer.

Steam Launch HARLEQUIN
Partly refurbished: the Newton Coil "flash" boiler has been scrapped and replaced with a porcupine boiler and has passed a SBA Boiler Inspection. No other mechanical changes have been made and Harlequin is substantially as listed in the SBA Handbook.
Unfortunately, due to a deterioration in the owner's health Harlequin must be sold. Work requiring to be carried out is almost entirely of a painting and brass re-polishing and refitting nature.
This represents a fine opportunity to purchase an interesting launch at a reasonable price (including 4-wheel trailer).
Offers are invited circa £6000.
Lying at Bodenham (halfway between Hereford and Leominster). HR1 3JH

Ship's Wheel
I have a lovely brass ships wheel for sale, with teak or iroko spokes, it would suit a nice steam launch of any size really.
The wheel is 18 inches diameter from spoke tip to tip, the inner wheel is 10 inches, the boss 3 1/8 inch and the bore of the mounting hole is ¾ inch, there is a keyway fitted.
This wheel is a genuine John Hastie & Co of Greenock wheel in absolutely 1st class condition.
I have owned the wheel for about 25 years, and did have it fitted on a trawler I used to own, before that I don’t know what it was fitted to , it was a present from my father.
I am looking for offers in the region of £275.00.

Five photo copied pictures of Barkers engines.

Photograph of Quadruple Expansion Engines made by Richardson & Co Ltd, Middlesbrough.
Photo copies of text from Liverpool Museum covering Barkers and Wilcox engines, significant that no castings were used in the Wilcox engine. Barker used a one armed but highly skilled pattern maker.
Article from the Model Engineer dated 1963 describing the Wilcox engine with an A3 photo copy of engine in Liverpool Museum.
Five off A4 Sheets of text and drawings detail St Rognvalds Marine Engine. (Source unknown).
Article on Corvettes and Frigates by Watson, numerous references to the work of Smiths Dock.
The books and drawings listed were collected by myself when I had ambitions to build a triple expansion marine engine. They were not easy to come by, it appears that the atmosphere on the dockside when the yards were being closed was not the best, most of the drawings were burnt. I am now too old to fulfil my ambition but would like the data be in the hands of those with a positive interest in such matters, so much material is in the archives of societies and unlikely to ever see the light of day.

No. 88 to 138 available, except no 104, which I seem to have mislaid. 49 copies all in good or very reasonable condition, shall we say £5 for ten? or £25 for the whole lot?
Ten would cost roughly five pounds via parcel post and the lot would work out at ten pounds. Also:-
Mitchell's "The Steam Launch" and Farmer's "From my old Boat Shop" these £20 each, again in very good nick!
"Reeds Yacht Trawler and Launch Engines" £20.
Reprint of Kunhardts "Steam Yachts and Launches". These seem like Hen's Teeth so how about £30?
