Hull

fantail launch. Construction: Triple Skin Kauri.
Built 1903 by Lane & Brown at Totara North, Whangaroa, New Zealand
Fit out 1994 by Alan Brimblecombe at Warkworth, New Zealand
LOA: 25' 0", LWL: 22' 6", Beam: 6' 9", Draft: 2' 9", Displacement: 4400 lbs.
Hull built as a motor launch, later converted to a yacht then finally a steamer. Hull uses three skins of Kauri planking, the inner and middle are laid diagonally, the out fore and aft, copper fastened throughout on 5 stringers. No ribs. heavily built, skins total almost an inch.

Engine

Single cylinder. 4 1/8" X 5"

Power: 6 HP
Engine is an original period marine engine. Maker is unknown, was thought to be by A & G Price of Thames, New Zealand, possibly by Seagar Bros of Auckland New Zealand. Rebuilt by Triple Star Engineering 2010.

Steel, 3 blades, Right Hand, 24" X 49"
Shaft: 1" Stainless Steel
Made by Peter Sewell and Sean Harris, fabricated and galvanised.


History

Converted to Steam from a yacht in 1994 by Alan Brimblecombe, with period engine and old boiler. new superstructure built in period style. Traveled approximately 3000 miles before being laid up in 2000. Sold to current owner in 2008 and recomissioned in 2009. Some repairs and rebuilding done in 2010. Laid up for hull repairs in 2017.
